The Full Story

Fear of Flying Hypnotherapy

Fear of Flying is not just about Fear of Crashing - It's also about Fear of Small Space, Fear of Turbulence, Fear of Not being Able to Get off the Plane

Does Hypnotherapy work for Fearless Flying?

Clients that come to see me hoping to overcome their fear of flying are generally very motivated. They feel their fear is holding them back in life; they can't travel or visit close family and friends or it's holding the entire family back from overseas holidays together.

They may have done the Qantas fear of flying course or CBT and have very low expectations of anything making any difference.

The good news is I have helped many people feel confident flying, got them able to board long-haul flights without panic attacks and hypnotherapy is the perfect therapeutic modality to achieve this.

It's not an easy fix - it can take 3-5 sessions but I've had a good success rate in lowering levels of flying phobias to a manageable level. I have even had clients say they now enjoy flying.

What to Expect in a Hypnotherapy Session

Hypnotherapy is done lying down. First you are guided into a calm state, relaxing the body and anchoring the mind into the hypnosis. Once you are in a deeply relaxed state, I will guide you into a very confident state.

You let go of fear and you become fearless. We change your neural wiring, geared to  fear of flying, and build new neural pathways that make you feel confident and relaxed flying. Your unconscious can't tell the difference between reality and imagination so we practise flying with your favourite music. That music we wire in will act like a positive trigger on the plane and will bring back these powerful positive feelings so you can fly in a relaxed state.

I also work with powerful NLP techniques that m. Perhaps we have to work with old fears or anxieties that you need to let go - the process of getting ready to  be a relaxed flier can bring up many old emotions and events that are ready to be healed as you step into the confident fearless you.

Once your fear levels have improved I may also use EMDR to work on past triggering experience - if appropriate.

Frequently asked questions:

Will it reduce my fear of flying to zero?

The most likely result is it will reduce your fear of flying to the point of being comfortable to fly. There are always exceptions and I have worked with clients who have no residual fear of flying and are completely comfortable on a plane  and I have one client who didn't respond to treatment.

Should I take medication when I fly?

This is something you can discuss with your doctor, but many of my clients use beta blockers or sleeping tablets to help on long haul flights, in combination with treatment.

How many sessions does it take?

Some people respond very quickly, in three sessions and i have done up to six sessions to create lasting change.

How do I know it works?

I ask clients to text me after the flight!

Do you have any take-away tools?

Yes, if provide hypnosis recordings you can use at home, daily if required and breath exercise tools.

Why is Hypnotherapy better than CBT for Fear of Flying?

Hypnotherapy works on your nervous system and unconscious and gets to the root of your issue. You can re-train your mind through confident flying in your imagination, while in a trance,  which re-wires your neural pathways for comfort not fear.
